Motorists who find themselves pulled over to the side of the road with a broken down vehicle should use any means necessary to have a mechanic deal with the vehicle instead of trying to fix it themselves.
According to Mike Pickard, the head of underwriting for esure car insurance, the cold weather that comes with the winter months usually cause an up tick in motor problems that lead to an increase in vehicle breakdowns, the Daily Mail reported.
He added that a recent survey conducted by esure had found that one in ten motorists who find themselves in trouble on the road try to fix the problem themselves while pulled over on the side of the roadway, a decision that can be prove to be dangerous.
“Attempting to fix your car on the motorway hard shoulder inches from cars traveling at 70 mph without the aid of specialist hazard lighting and professional equipment is madness,” Pickard told the Daily Mail.
Instead, Pickard suggests that motorists get out of their vehicle and stand behind the guardrail while calling a local mechanic to come and pick the car up.
If a motorist affected by a breakdown does not have the funds to pay for a tow truck, they should consider a payday loan to cover the expense rather than putting their lives in danger trying to fix the problem themselves.
